Her obituary: Dorothy Grant White August 18, 1935 - March 12, 2024 – Dorothy Grant White passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on March 12, 2024, in Woodstock, GA. Those who knew Dot are able to smile at the thought of her arriving in heaven with her eyesight and mobility fully restored. She's undoubtedly joined a choir and is singing with the angels. Her life started on August 18, 1935. Dot was born in the small town of Taylorsville, GA to Lee and Vesta Grant. Her life started simply with her sleeping in a dresser drawer instead of a crib. Her family included brothers Bobby and Doyle and a sister Pat. They have all preceded her in death, we can only imagine their recent heavenly reunion. Dot's family moved to Kennesaw when she was very young. She attended Sprayberry High School where she loved to play basketball. She met her first love, James White, while on a blind date arranged by her sister. The date turned into 58 years of marriage. During those years Dot was an 'Army Wife' a badge she wore with honor, she loved her country and spoke of the challenges and rewards of her experiences. When retirement came along, they returned to Dot's hometown of Kennesaw, GA so she could be near her family that she had missed during their travels. Returning home also meant she was able to return to her childhood church, Shiloh Methodist, where she faithfully served with much joy. She started new programs at the church, two that were near and dear to her heart were the youth group and the choir. She loved singing and recruited everyone she could to be a member of the choir. Family and friends will all remember Dot's parties and family get togethers. The more the merrier - she enjoyed sharing her home, food, and love. If there wasn't a holiday to celebrate, she found some reason to get folks together. Much love and happy times were shared at her home. Dot's eyesight began to fail but her spirit continued to soar. She decided to adapt so she could continue a full life and decided to move into independent living at Merrill Gardens in Woodstock, GA. She quickly added new friends and activities that enriched her life. In true Dot spirit she started a choral group and again recruited new friends to sing - oh what fun they all had! Life changed again when love struck a second time. Dot and Lester Ellis married in August 2019 and they enjoyed four amazing years together. Dot and Lester formed a bible study/prayer group as a solution for the residents that couldn't leave to attend church. This initially started during COVID and is still thriving. Dot was a faithful servant in any way she could. Dot also served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 414, in Kennesaw, GA Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Vesta Grant, husband James White, son Danny White, brothers Doyle and Bobby Grant, sister Pat Hester and her late husband Lester Ellis. She is survived by her son Randy White, daughter Lin Contino and son-in-law Jamie Contino. Her grandchildren are Jessica, Hayle, James, Abby, Samantha, Lauren, Justin, and Nick. Her family also includes twelve great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dot was blessed again when her loving family expanded in 2019 with the addition of the Ellis family including Rick (Shannon), Steve (Elzina), Allen (Ann) and their children and grandchildren.
