His obituary: Charlie Leon Casteel, Pop, 68. Blackshear – Charlie Leon Casteel, 68, died early Monday afternoon (Oct. 30, 2006) at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cobb County, Ga. on Oct. 23, 1938, he lived in Mooreville, N.C. for many years before moving to Pierce County in 2004 following his retirement from Siegling America in Huntersville, N.C. where he was in construction. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Mooresville and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 496, Mooresville. He will be remembered as a loving Pop by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. He was a son of the late Forrest and Irene Morgan Casteel and was also preceded in death by a step-son, Keith Crockett.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Joy (Joyce Smith) Casteel, of Blackshear; his mother, Irene Morgan Casteel, of Marietta; one step-son, Dave (Robbie) Crockett, of Newnan; four sisters, Emily (Truett) Russell, of Kennesaw, Vickie (John) Goltz, of Marietta, Donna (Paul) Hammonds, of Adairsville, Ga., and Melissa (Kenny) Sawyer, of Woodstock; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral will be held this evening at 8 at Pearson- Treadwell Chapel. Burial will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 6841 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, Ga. Visitation will be this evening from 6 until time of the service at Pearson–Treadwell Funeral Home.
