Ms. LeCroy was born on January 5, 1940 in Jacksonville, Fla. She was the only child of B.J. and Inez Blackwell. She grew up in Marietta, Ga. Always a wonderful force to be reckoned with she was chosen Miss Sprayberry High School in Marietta and was active in the Beta Club, SHS Band, Glee Club, Student Council and was selected Outstanding Girl of the Seventh District" while at SHS. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga. in 1960. After college graduation, Jan made her home in Atlanta for 20 years. She continued her career in social work at the Hiawassee Mental Health Center in Cleveland, Tenn. In 1990 she moved to Fort Pierce, Fla. and continued her career as a Social Worker with new Horizons Treasure Coast Mental Health Center. After retiring in 2002, she moved to Brandon to be near her daughter, Michelle Alexander and her husband Robert and their two young daughters, Claire Sykes and Rives. Jan often called herself a leftover hippie and loved to remember her days as a clay potter and musician. While in Atlanta, she and her lifelong friend, Becky Meeks, owned and operated the Pot Hole Pottery Shop where they made and sold pottery and sagged glass wind chimes. She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano for Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Fairway Golf and Country Club in For Pierce. In addition, she accompanied Anita Prentice and the Dream Toonz Band as they entertained through- out South Florida. Jan's piano playing brought plea- sure to her many friends at the Heritage House of Castlewoods. But Jan can best be described by the word courageous. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and enjoyed ten years of remission until the cancer returned in 1998. She was truly admired by her many friends for the valiant strug- gle she waged against the terrible disease. Through it all, she never lost her love of life and her marvelous sense of humor.
