His obituary: Bullet Bob Armstrong (1939 – 2020), WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Bullet Bob Armstrong was a professional wrestler whose career spanned five decades, from 1960 to his final match in 2009. His four sons became professional wrestlers and he partnered with them in tag team matches at various points in his career. Armstrong was born Joseph James in Marietta, Ga. in 1939. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later worked as a firefighter in Georgia. He began wrestling in 1960. At the time wrestling promotions were regional and he became a regular on the southeast circuit. He dubbed his signature move the Georgia Jawbreaker. In 1988 he went into quasi-retirement. Armstrong and his wife, Gail, had four sons. The all became wrestlers: Joseph, aka Scott Armstrong, Brad, Steve, and Brian, aka WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg Jesse James. Armstrong wrestled alongside each of them in tag team matches throughout the 90s and 2000s. He wrestled his last match in 2009 at the age of 69. I think somebody up there likes me. I got to live my dream – he told the audience at his 2011 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony where he was welcomed on stage by his sons.
