His obituary: Robert Dennis Harris Big D, April 23, 1942 – February 14, 2023. Robert Dennis Harris passed away on February 14, 2023, at the age of 80 at the Phoenix on Lake Lanier after a decade-long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded by his father, Elmer Wylie Harris and his mother, Dessie Mae Harris, as well as his sister Peggy Morris. He is survived by his wife Jane Harris of Marietta, Georgia; son Rob Harris, daughter-in-law Dr. Matthey Harris, grandsons Brock Harris and Luke Harris of Gainesville, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Barbara Kirk of Hartwell, Georgia; and brother and sister-in-law Dan and Judy Harrington of Gulf Breeze, Florida. Known to many as Bob or by his nickname Big D, he was born on April 23, 1942 in Kennesaw, Georgia. A lifelong Georgian, Bob attended Sprayberry High School and married Nola Jane Kirk from Acworth, Georgia in 1962. Following high school, he worked in the non-destructive testing area for Lockheed at Dobbins Air Force Base before graduating from Georgia State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration in 1970. After college, Bob began a more than four-decade career in the material handling and forklift industry that would see him handling multiple regional, national and international accounts for the likes of Yale, Hyster, Komatsu and Caterpillar brands. Bob and his wife Jane retired to East Cobb in 2017 before relocating to Gainesville, Georgia in 2022. Bob's Memorial Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, Georgia on March 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Bob would ask that you make a donation to Cure Childhood Cancer (curechildhoodcancer.org) in his memory and in honor of his grandson Luke Harris, a childhood leukemia survivor.
