April 23, 1942 – June 12, 2020. Douglas Doug Edward Gasaway 78, Cartersville resident died on June 12, 2020. Son of the late Lawson Gasaway and Inez Graham Gasaway. Doug graduated from Sprayberry High School Marietta Ga where he played football. He was baptized and a member of Wesley Chapel UMC, and later moved to Cartersville and attended Trinity UMC. Doug coached little league baseball and youth basketball for many years and sponsored teams. He was President for several years of the Mountain View Community Center on Sandy Plains Rd. Marietta Ga and worked many fundraising events to save the center and help make it a permanent building for the community that it is today. Doug worked with Walton High School booster club when the school was brand new and the county budget couldn't provide needed money. He worked on the football field and volunteered many hours with fundraisings. Doug loved sports and working with the youth. He enjoyed traveling learning the history of the places he traveled to. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Cartersville Country Club. Doug is preceded in death by his sister , Evelyn Waldrop, brother, Tony Gasaway, and nephew, Danny Waldrop. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Shelby Majors Gasaway; son, Ted Gasaway; granddaughter, Gabrielle Gasaway; sister, Brenda Howard; brothers; Mark Gasaway, Wesley Gasaway, Charles Gasaway; ten nieces; and three nephews.
A Graveside service will take place at Pineridge Memorial Park on Thursday, June 18th 2020 at 2:00 PM. The family requests that all visitors for the service wear casual clothes.
