January 25, 1941 – July 4, 2024. Gereal Pauline Coffey Byrd, a lifelong resident of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the age of 83. She was born January 25, 1941, to the late George Monroe and Pauline Coffey. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Glen Martin. Gereal Byrd is survived by her husband, Rayford Byrd, her high-school sweetheart. They were married on December 19, 1959. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her three daughters: Paula Howard (Brad) of Canton, GA, Rena of Canton, GA, and Pamela Martin of Richmond Hill, GA. All together they had 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Gereal Pauline Coffey Byrd was saved and baptized at Elizabeth Baptist Church, of Marietta. She has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which impacted her entire life. She was a shining example of a Christian woman, serving as the Eastwood Baptist Church financial secretary for over 22 years. She showed her faith as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and sister in Christ. Her greatest enjoyments were watching the Atlanta Braves, being at Myrtle Beach reading a good book, or just studying the Bible. She loved supporting her grandkids and great-grandkids in every sporting event. Most of all, her greatest enjoyment was spending her time with Rayford. Gereal was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
It breaks our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of us went with you the day God took you home.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Marietta Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Byrd will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 1:30pm at Eastwood Baptist Church in Marietta, GA. She will be laid to rest at Chattahoochee Baptist Church Cemetery.
