His obituary: Lowell Norris Jones, March 22, 1941 – December 9, 2023, Powder Springs. Lowell Norris Jones, 82, of Powder Springs, Ga passed away on December 9, 2023. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 12-14-23, at the West Cobb Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, 12-13-23, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Norris was born in the Mt. Bethel Community of East Cobb County on March 22, 1941, to Jeff and Leola Jones. He attended Sprayberry High School, Southern Tech and Atlanta Technical School of Welding. He served 2 yrs. in the U.S. Army. He was the owner of C&J Welding when it was located in East Cobb. He worked at Lockheed for 22 yrs. as a Facilities Supervisor. He spent most of his life in East Cobb but retired and moved to West Cobb County. He then became Farmer Jones, owner of Jones Family Farm. At first, he raised goats, then bought chickens and went into the egg business. He loved to garden and sold his vegetables to the local community. He was famous for his tomatoes. He raised donkeys and always had a mule. For many years, he carried animals to the North GA State Fair and helped with the kindergarten tours. He was a member of the Old Time Plow Club; collected many farm implements and tools; and his special Farmall Cub tractors. He loved Mt. Bethel and helped the Friends of Hyde Farm raise money by walking his mule on Johnson Ferry Rd. The Hyde Farm mule, Nell, is buried at the farm. Norris was a lifelong member of Mt. Bethel UMC and attended St. Stephen UMC. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sarah Holliday Jones. Two sons: Derek C. Jones of Woodstock and Dwayne J. (Angel) Jones of Powder Springs. Brothers: Lanier (Edith) Jones and J. Wesley Jones, both of Dunwoody. Grandchildren: Bradley Jones, Emily Holt, Zac Jones, Greg Jones & Tim Jones. Extended Family: James & Sherry Byrd, Matthew and Nathan. Ken Monckton, Gail, David & Greg Hartmann, Dow & Sharon Jones, Merilyn & Jimmy Jones and Amy Cliver. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers - Curtis, Elmer, Donald and W.C. Jones; two sisters: Ivalyne Monckton and Voncile Hartmann.
