His obituary: Donald Abney, 1944 – May 12, 2018. Donald Pops Abney, age 74, of Canton, GA passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his residence. Pops was a member of the Ring of Honor at Cherokee County High School and was a volunteer for many years with Cherokee High School Athletics. He was voted into the Gridiron Club Hall of Fame for his volunteer work. The Cherokee High School Football Field House was named Pops Place in his honor. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Bro. Marcus Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, May 14, 2018, and from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at South Canton Funeral Home. Survivors include: Son – Tim (Michelle) Abney; Daughter – Vickie (Paul) Oswalt; Son – Brian Abney; Brother – James Abney; Sister – Martha Trotter; Sister – Melba Blackwood; Grandchildren: Trista Parker, Travis Abney, Lane Abney, Blayke Williams, Gracen Oswalt and Benjamin Oswalt; 7 – Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews and other Family and Friends also survive.
