Tommy Manner. Tommy died on November 16, 2021.
His obituary: Thomas Douglas Manner,
November 17, 1944 – November 16, 2021. Tom Manner of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on November 16, 2021, one day short of his seventy-seventh birthday. Although born in New Jersey, he always considered North Georgia his home. He graduated from Sprayberry High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. By the time he was twenty, he'd built a home, started a family of his own, and was working for Damar, Inc. in Marietta. Tom's career at Damar lasted thirty years. In 1990, Tom used his entrepreneurial spirit and knowledge of the industry to start Sheet Metal Components on Zena Drive in Cartersville. The business was quickly successful and Tom grew strong roots in Cartersville. As he'd planned from the start of the company, in 2004, he sold SMC to a core group of SMC employees and retired. He maintained strong ties to the company and still knew most employees by name. In his retirement, Tom built custom hot rod cars and forged a network of close friends who shared his passion. The design and building of hot rods was more than just a casual hobby for Tom. His vision and skill created award-winning cars and trucks. He won trophies at almost every show he attended, often receiving both fan-favorite and technical awards. Car shows were the perfect outlet for his gregarious nature, technical skill, and willingness to share his experience with others. He was a great storyteller with an engaging sense of humor. Tom came from a large and close-knit family and embraced new family and friends with his full heart, a warm hug, and a pat on the back. Alongside his wife, Jane, he loved to host parties at their home. He stayed close with his siblings and high school friends and expanded his circle at every opportunity. He and Jane embraced the widest definition of family and found great joy in watching it grow. He raised five children: Anne, Ed, Jenny, Gina and Shane. He was proud of his six grandchildren: Rachel and Dylan; Jacob and Charlotte; and Brittany and Rae. This past year, his first great-grandchild, Emery, has brought great joy. So many people loved him, whether they knew him as Dad, Papa, Tom, or Uncle Tommy. A memorial celebrating Tom will be held at Taylor Farm, 201 Lucas Road, Cartersville, GA 30120 on Saturday, December 4th from 2:00-5:00 pm. There will be a brief service at 2:00 pm followed by an opportunity to socialize with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts made to one of these charities:
