His obituary: Herbert Lynn, 76, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He was born on January 6, 1948, in Collins, Georgia, the son of the late Roy Lynn and Myrtice Hutcheson Lynn. Herbert graduated from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia. In 1968, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and bravely served his country in the Vietnam War. During his service, Herbert demonstrated exceptional dedication and courage, earning prestigious accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Herbert pursued a career as a crane operator at Atlantic Steel, where he dedicated over 27 years of service before retiring. In his leisure time, Herbert found solace in working on his cherished vintage cars, often spending hours meticulously restoring and fine-tuning their engines in his garage. He was a dedicated member of the Whooping Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where he actively participated in community events and initiatives. Herbert will be fondly remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to God, his profound dedication to his family, and his unwavering patriotism and service to his country. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Melissa Anderson Lynn; son Shannon Lynn; daughter and son-in-law, Tonja and Jason Merrell; grandchildren, Coral and Ray Pinder III, Madison and Dylan Mertens, Maci Merrell, and Tori Merrell; and great-grandchildren Saylor Pinder and Isla Pinder. A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Herbert's life on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 12:00 Noon from Whooping Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Merrell and Rev.
