His obituary: Mark Alan Palmer – Palmer, Mark Alan. After his battle with cancer, Mark Alan Palmer succumbed to his illness on June 6, 2015. Mark was a renowned building contractor in the Atlanta and surrounding area. He built many classic homes and was considered to be a master craftsman by all who knew of his work. He was proud to see his passion for building rewarded by many organizations in this profession, among which, was the prestigious Philip Shutze Award for excellence. Mark attended Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia and West Georgia University in Carrollton, Georgia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps until the end of the Viet Nam War. He accomplished much in his lifetime, and during his retirement years enjoyed "life at the lake" with family and friends. He was a member of the NASA, National Auto Sport Association and raced with his son, Alan. They became well known at courses around the southeast tracks and won many trophies in the sport. Mark is survived by his wife, Marilynn Carol Palmer, his daughter, Cheri Lynn (Justin) Forand, and his son Alan Kenneth Palmer, his grandchildren include Mark Chandler Palmer, Sydney Anne Palmer, Brooke Victoria Forand, Austyn Kennedy Palmer and Kayla Lee Forand, his sister, Cheryl Palmer Mathis and family of South Carolina and his brother, Michael Stanley Palmer and family from South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (choa.org) or Shepherd Center (Shepherd.org). A Memorial Service is planned for Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church at 2715 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia at 2PM.
