Class of 1966

Sherry Rogers. Sherry died on October 8, 2026.

Her obituary: Sherry Lynn Butterworth, January 21, 1948 – October 8, 2026. Sherry Lynn Butterworth, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on October 8, 2026, at Kennestone Hospital. Sherry was born on January 21, 1948, in Calhoun, Georgia, to the late James Jimmy Henry Rogers and Ruby Geneva Rogers. She graduated from Sprayberry High School and married Norman Lee Butterworth, who had joined the Army, and together they moved to Fort Hood. Sherry would describe that time as some of the happiest moments the two of them ever shared. They went on to have two children, Tammy and Jon. Their love story was their own, and a special one at that; they even married each other twice. A banker by trade, Sherry managed many branches over the course of her career before retiring from Cobb EMC in 2008. The banker in her never retired, though: she still kept a paper checkbook register. Sherry was fiercely independent and as stubborn as they come. She maintained all of her own lawn equipment and cared for more than two acres, multiple flower beds, her annual gardens, and her treasured scuppernong vines. She loved to bake and made the absolute best pound cake, and her famous spaghetti was a family favorite. You could always count on Sherry to have everything needed for any party or vacation. She was prepared for anything and went out of her way to help others be just as prepared, often buying school supplies as soon as the lists were posted. She looked out for everyone she loved and made sure they knew it. Best known as Nanna, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye and brought her so much joy. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva and Jimmy Rogers; her brother, Mike Rogers; her husband, Norman Butterworth; and her son, Jon Butterworth. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Hayworth (Ray); her grandchildren, Tiffany Martin (Blake), Randa Conley (Chris), Travis Hayworth (Keaton), and Truitt Hayworth; and her great-grandchildren, Braylynn, Wyatt, Wylder, and Brynlee Martin, Delanie Conley, and Colter Hayworth. Brynlee is scheduled to arrive via cesarean on Sherry's birthday, a sweet gift Nanna was looking so forward to; Her sister-in law Lori Barrett (Ken) and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Lori and Ken for all they did for Sherry and to her neighbors Chris & Shea Shaw. She was so grateful for all of them. True to form, Sherry did not want a viewing or a traditional funeral. She chose cremation and told her family to do what is convenient and do it quickly. In honor of her wishes, the family will receive friends and family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Lakeside Funeral Home & Crematory, 121 Claremore Drive, Woodstock, Georgia. Following the service, the family will be having dinner at Marietta Fish Market. Anyone is welcome to join. Sherry had a generous heart and gave to many veteran's and children's charities. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to a veteran's or children's charity of your choice. She would be honored. There is so much more to be said about the resilient and beautiful woman she was, but there simply isn't enough room. She is already missed dearly, and her absence will be felt for the rest of our days.
