Her obituary: Carolyn Joan Higgins, September 10, 1949 – February 13, 2024. It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Carolyn, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by her loving family on Shrove Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the day of Mardi Gras. Carolyn lived her life with an exuberance and joy that mirrored the spirit of this festive occasion, celebrating every moment with boundless love and warmth. Carolyn was born in Marietta, Georgia, in 1949, and graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1967. She spent most of her life in the area and cherished her hometown deeply. Devoted to her family above all else, Carolyn's love knew no bounds. She cherished every moment spent with her family and is survived by her husband, Horace, and children, Janie, Jennifer, and Blake, along with grandchildren, Miguel, Erika, Bri, Jeric, Hadison, and Hensley, and great-grandson, Walter. Her nurturing presence extended beyond her immediate family to encompass her sister Judy, sister-in-law Richalene (Glenn) and brother-in-law Kelley (Betty), cousins, nieces/nephews, and countless others who were touched by her kindness and compassion. Along with her 4 legged 24 hour a day shadow, her dog Bella! She was preceded in death by her loving father and mother, Ben and Grace Thompson. A faithful and devoted member of the Episcopal Church, Carolyn's love for God and her unwavering faith were the cornerstones of her life. She found solace, strength, and urpose in her spiritual community at ECA, where she joyfully served as a shining example of Christian love and compassion. Her faith was not just a belief, but a guiding force that shaped her every action, inspiring others with her unwavering devotion and deep reverence for the teachings of Christ. Carolyn, aged 74, began her working career after high school by going into private nursing for a short time before embarking on a 30 plus year career with Cobb County schools, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues alike. Her commitment to education and her passion for nurturing young minds were evident in her every interaction. After her dedicated service with Cobb County, Carolyn furthered her passion for children and education by dedicating an additional 16 years to High Meadows School in Roswell, GA, where she held various roles, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless students. In her professional life, Carolyn was renowned for her incredible positivity, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication. Her colleagues at High Meadows spoke of her infectious enthusiasm and her ability to uplift those around her with her boundless energy and zest for life. Carolyn's commitment to serving others, both near and far, was a testament to her unwavering faith and compassionate heart. Whether she was volunteering her time at local shelters, supporting missions abroad, or simply offering a kind word and a listening ear to those in need, she embodied the spirit of Christ's love in all that she did. Carolyn's love for nature and holistic living was evident in every aspect of her life. Whether she was riding horses, tending to her garden of flowers and herbs, or enjoying outdoor adventures like white-water rafting and bike riding, she found beauty and solace in the natural world. Her dedication to environmental causes and her advocacy for those less fortunate reflected her deep sense of empathy and her desire to make a positive impact on the world around her. Known affectionately as mom and grammy(ie) by many, Carolyn's love and warmth extended far beyond her own family. She had a knack for making everyone she met feel like a cherished member of her extended family, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of Carolyn's life and a committal in the memorial garden will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, at 3 pm at The Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, located at 1673 Jamerson Road, Marietta, Georgia 30066. The family invites you to dress in blue if you are so inclined as that was Carolys favorite color! A reception will follow in the Activities Building as we gather to honor and remember the remarkable life of our beloved Carolyn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ECA Outreach ministry or Never Alone Food Pantry or Encompass Ministries (Papa's Pantry) both in Woodstock Ga in memory of Carolyn, whose legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire us all. #dittowithloveforever Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched with her boundless love, generosity, and unwavering faith. May her memory be a blessing, and may we find comfort in the cherished moments we shared with her, guided by the light of her faith and the love she so generously shared with the world.
