His obituary: Mr Marshall Smith, 60. Marshall Smith, 60, of South Oak Drive, Cartersville, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Mr. Smith was born May 6, 1949, in Cobb County, the son of the late Murray J. and Thelma Mae Metcalf Smith, was an electrician and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Lonnie J. Smith. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Smith of Cartersville; a son, Brent D. Smith of Cartersville; two sisters, Sandra Phillips of Carrollton and Cindy Howard of Acworth; a brother, Ronnie Smith of Marietta; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Georgia Chapter, 3715 Northside Parkway, Building 400, Suite 300, Atlanta, Ga. 30327. Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, is in charge of the arrangements.
