His obituary: James 'Jim' Justin Mercure, January 14, 1953 – June 20, 2025. James Justin Mercure, age 72, passed away suddenly on June 20, 2025, at his home in Marietta, Georgia. Born on January 14, 1953, at Kennestone Hospital, he was a proud graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning his degree in Chemical Engineering. A true Yellow Jacket, he was a helluva engineer. He was a devoted grandfather, an avid handyman, and a passionate fisherman. He especially loved working on his collection of British cars. A consummate family man – a protector, provider, and deeply trustworthy – he cherished his loved ones and would do anything for them. Though straightforward and no-nonsense by nature, those who knew him understood that beneath his rugged exterior was a heart of gold. He was particularly overjoyed by the birth of his identical twin grandsons and eagerly looked forward to teaching them how to fish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Hubert and Mary Joan Mercure, and his brother, Christopher Sr. He is survived by his first wife, Janie Weaver Mercure; his son, Joseph Justin Mercure (Lauren); his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mercure-Williams (Joseph); and his beloved grandsons, Jeremiah Pippin and John Jacob Mercure. He is also survived by his siblings: Ronald Jr. (Diane), Michael (Cindy), (Judy), Peter (Suzanne), Ilona Todd (Larry), Mary Veronica, and John (Beth), as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The family will receive guests from 1 PM to 2 PM Friday, June 27th, 2025 at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Chapel in Marietta, Georgia with services to follow immediately.
