His obituary: Lamar Thompson, June 8, 1956 – May 26, 2025. Lamar Thompson, age 68, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away on May 26, 2025. Born in Gainesville, Florida, on June 8, 1956, he was the beloved son of the late Keat Thompson and Mary Frazier Thompson. Lamar had a heart as big as his love for life. He found joy in the simple things–tending to his garden with his gifted green thumb, collecting treasures, getting lost in books, and enjoying movies. His laughter was contagious, his sense of humor unmatched, and his spirit always lighthearted. A true jokester, he had a way of making even the hardest days brighter. More than anything, Lamar loved the Lord, and his faith was a guiding force in his life. He carried that joy with him through his years of dedicated service, retiring from the Cobb County School Board, where he worked in maintenance. Lamar was also a devoted fan of the Florida Gators and the Atlanta Braves, cheering them on through every season. His passion for sports was undeniable, and he found great joy in celebrating every victory and rallying through every challenge with unwavering enthusiasm. Lamar's happy-go-lucky nature and warm heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nora Joiner. Lamar's absence will be deeply felt by his surviving family: his brothers, Alan Thompson and Gary Thompson, and his sisters, Mary Ann Andrews and Amy Turner. A memorial service for Lamar will be held at a later date. Cagle Funeral Home proudly serving Mr. Lamar Thompson and family.
