His obituary: Stephen Charles Hamel Jr., December 6, 1959 – October 4, 2025. Stephen Charles Hamel Jr., 65, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born on December 6, 1959, in Malden, Massachusetts, to Stephen Charles and Mary (Rowe) Hamel, Steve grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Marietta, Georgia as the eldest of four brothers: Brian, Barry, and Jon. Steve had a competitive spirit honed on the hockey rinks and racquetball courts at Elmira College, where he met the love of his life, Deborah. This drive propelled him to become a successful entrepreneur. Alongside Debbie, he built and ran Halas Millwork, transforming his passion into a thriving business and establishing himself as an exceptional provider for his family. A devoted father, Steve was deeply dedicated to his children. To his daughter, Megan, he offered unwavering love and encouragement, passing on his entrepreneurial wisdom that guided her to become a successful businesswoman. To his son Stephen, he passed on his love of competitive sports, coaching his youth hockey teams as they traveled across the country and Canada, instilling discipline and drive that has led Stephen to his own success. Steve was an adoring grandfather, lovingly called Papa by his grandchildren, Makenzie, Skylar, and Harper. They cherished him, and he spoiled them with boundless affection, treats, and joyful moments that created treasured memories. Steve's selfless spirit touched many, as he and Debbie supported countless families in the hockey community and beyond with heartfelt encouragement and thoughtful acts of kindness. He had a big heart that was seen by many. To this day, parents approach Steve's family to express gratitude for the profound impact he had on their children's lives, a testament to his kind and generous nature that touched so many. Though this may be a sad time for his loved ones, they can take solace in Steve now residing in Heaven, feet kicked up on a sofa, cheering on his beloved back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, remote in hand as the world-class channel surfer they all knew him to be. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Deborah Halas Hamel; daughter, Megan (Hamel) Crook; son, Stephen Hamel; son-in-law, Jason Crook; cherished grandchildren, Makenzie, Skylar, and Harper Crook; three brothers, Brian and his wife Peggy, Barry, and Jon Hamel; and his nieces and nephews. Steve's legacy of love, leadership, laughter, and generosity will live on in all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held for Steve. Please reach out to a family member for details.
