Her obituary: Effie Renee Petrie, May 3, 1967 – June 28, 2025. Effie Renee Petrie, 58, of Woodstock, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025. She is preceded in death by her father Richard Petrie and is survived by her mother Martha Petrie, brother Rick Petrie, sister-in-law Sonya, nephew Jacob, and niece Naomi. Effie was a graduate of Sprayberry High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Emory University followed by a Master's Degree in National Security Affairs Pacific RIM at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Effie retired as a Commander after serving 24 years in the Navy as an Intelligence Officer. She participated in multiple combat deployments to include Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Effie served on the USS Blue Ridge, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, and the final cruise of the USS Enterprise. Effie stayed busy after retiring from the Navy by volunteering with the Cobb Community Response Team (CERT) and the Cobb County District Attorney's Cold Case unit. Effie loved food and travel. She visited over 50 countries, numerous territories, and the continent of Antarctica during her travels, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends who all loved her very much. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM in Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. The graveside will follow the service at Macland Cemetery in Powder Springs. Effie will be remembered for the love she shared with all who knew her. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (give.choa.org).
